"New Yorker readers" listening for the "echoes of [Dorothy Parker's] Round Table" flock to this "legendary" centenarian in the Theater District for a "genuine NYC experience"; service is "friendly as all get-out", the Oak Room's cabaret "can't be beat" and the renovated rooms are nice enough, but the real reason you're here is for all that "history oozing from the cracks."

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Beds, pillows and blankets were fabulous.
Room service for breakfast was cold toast and mediocre hot chocolate.

Fabulous old New York hotel with great atmosphere, fascinating history and the only hotel cat in the city. The beds and beddings made for the best night's sleep I have had in ages.

Was greeted nicely at the front door and by every worker that I passed on my way to the room. Room was small but sufficient for my needs.
I actually don't have anything negative to say. It is New York wasn't expecting a huge room.

Nice and clean hotel with a very friendly respectful staff. I really enjoyed the charm of them keeping the historical aspect of it. Rooms were quaint, halls were adorable and loved the wrought iron stairway. ...read more

Old world charm.
Room was poorly decorated. View of a wall.

Charming old fashioned hotel. Does not deserve 4 star rating. 2.5 stars, maybe 3. Did not stay for more than 8 hours, so for me it was fine, especially for the rate I paid.

Extremely cold and drafty room.

Weak upgrades and small uncomfortable rooms. Unbelievably drafty from lack of insulation around window air conditioner. An absolute unpleasant experience.
